Betty Hicks
Biography
Betty Hicks has put her single and stepparent experiences to good use in all four of her books depicting funny, true-to-life family situations. Mixing humor and warmth, she emphasizes that children in non-traditional families have challenging adjustments at home, but otherwise they lead normal lives—having fun, getting into trouble, worrying about friendships, or trying to excel in extracurricular activities. She loves to bring laughter, and hopefully meaning, to the experiences of growing up, not just in a divorced family, but in any family.
Betty has a BA in English and an MFA in the Study and Writing of Children's Literature from Hollins College. She has published stories in Highlights and Pockets magazines, is a member of SCBWI, and has worked as a book reviewer for Children's Literature.
She and her husband, Bill, live in Greensboro, North Carolina. Betty enjoys reading, nature photography, travel, hiking, golf, and spending time with her two grandsons. "Not only are they fantastic," she says, "but they guarantee me endless ideas for future books!"
