Jackie Garlick
Biography
Jackie Garlick grew up on the Thames River in a small town called Chatham in Ontario (just like in the U.K. only it’s not) and now lives in a place known as the Chemical Valley (but don’t worry she’s planning to move soon). She lives there with her husband Sean and four children, who prefer to remain anonymous, except for Seth who is nine.
As a child, she spent more time writing than reading, according to her former teachers, who claim she spent class time re-writing the boring stories in her school readers, insisting she could do a better job. In grade nine she met up with an amazing English teacher, whose passion for literature fast became contagious. This resulted in the production of a whole lot of angst-filled, sappy poetry, published in her high school newspaper, to which she would never sign her name. After high school, all she wanted to do was become a writer or an artist, so her parents quickly sent her off to college to study law. From there she went on to study Psychology at University, eventually becoming a teacher, but secretly she kept writing and dreaming about one day doing that for a living.
Today, she teaches part time at a local Community College so she can write YA fiction all the rest of the time. She is a member of the SCBWI, Nevada Chapter (to whom she will be forever indebted) and C.A.P.S., the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers. In her spare time she writes. And sleeps. And wakes up writing, again. And is very happy with that plan.
